One of the mission statements of Keystone Communities of Prior Lake states that they “embrace the essential personhood of every individual through all the seasons of life and are committed to supporting and enriching the quality of our residents’ lives at all levels of ability.”

Arriving as a first time visitor and watching the staff interaction with its residents, particularly Ryan Olson, the Director of Marketing, I was taken with the earnestness and patience that seemed to go out to everyone who lived there.

Ryan Olson, a young man, greeted me with a warm smile.  I commented how impressive it was to see such obvious care being given to the people there.
Olson is a people person and his kind of skills don’t seem to be in short supply here.

Olson received his degrees from Mankato State, where he majored in communications studies and Spanish and chose to finish his Bachelor’s Degree abroad, completing them in 2010 at Estudio Sampere in the heart of Madrid, Spain.  It would be difficult to find a more charming or seductive city to complete one’s degree.

Returning to Minnesota, he found himself back at Keystone Communities.  His history here was already established volunteering as a teenager to help any way he could.  Ryan’s involvement began early.  At fifteen he was calling bingo for residents on game night.  It was an environment where his understanding of the residents and the business of hosting them would come together.

He’s careful to point out and works to avoid the perception or cliché that Keystone Communities is a “nursing home.”  “It’s about inspiring the way Minnesota ages”.  Keystone Communities offers “aging in place”, he said.  “It means that when people move in, they can move in independently or receive services immediately.”  Services can be provided for those in need and residents can remain in the same apartment as services change.

Keystone Communities is clearly designed with the resident in mind. Here you will find inviting common rooms and spacious rental apartments offering a generous amenity package that includes full kitchen, washer/dryer, individual climate control, cable television and Internet access.
