Meet Your Local Business: Viking Liquor Barrel

Things that make you go hmmm.... Liquor

The body or lightness of whiskey is primarily determined by the size of the grain from which it is made; the larger the grain, the lighter the whiskey. For example, whiskey made from rye, with its small grain size, is bigger or fuller-bodied than is whiskey made from corn, with its large grain size.

Viking Liquor Barrel at 16290, Minnesota 13 in Prior Lake, has been a community spirits destination since Dick Casey purchased it in 1982.  His store has the distinction of having been in the same location since it opened.  Dick is now semi retired living here in town.

The store’s daily management duties were assume in 1995 by John Parrish.  John and his wife have one son and love calling Prior Lake home.  His passion for golf and coaching his son in a variety sports round out his time away from the store.

John has gone the extra mile to insure that store customers continue getting the kind of customer service that has made Viking Liquor Barrel so popular in Prior Lake.  He’s has made the store thrive by managing long term employees who have created personal relationships with Viking Barrel customers.  His belief that loyal, long term customers are the store’s bread and butter and an important anchor to their success is underscored by a wide selection of beverages.

Viking Liquor Barrel is one of the premier destinations for the recent boom in craft beers.  He and his staff are always on the look out for new, delicious craft beers while carefully maintaining a good inventory of the beer lover staples like Budweiser and Coors.

They know their wines at Viking Liquor Barrel as well.  Prior Lake wine aficionados have long counted on the store for diversity.  Parrish keeps a broad selection of imports in stock as well as competitively priced Napa and Sonoma County wines for people to choose from.  He’s watched the popularity of vino grow over the years and understands the importance of choosing wines that match up in quality as well as price points. Prior Lake shoppers are, of course, the beneficiaries of these kind of careful selections.

John commented to us that single malt scotches have also grown markedly over the last decade in popularity, an understandable trend given their richness and complexity.  He smiled and noted that a lot of customers love to sit down with him and share their love for single-malts.  He assures us that Viking Liquor Barrel will stay at the forefront of deep selections across all categories.

He and the staff believe the store’s numerous in-store tasting events help customers not only make careful buying decisions but also create conversation that brings them all closer.  There’s a real sense here that shoppers and their opinions matter.

Viking Barrel Liquor has stood out for a very long time because of knowledgeable employees who insist great customer service and aggressive pricing matter.  It all comes together to make the store one of Prior Lake’s premier spirits destinations.
