Meet Your Local Business: Franciscan Retreats and Spirituality Center

Things that make you go hmmm.... The Bible

• The Bible is the world’s most shoplifted book.

• The longest word in the Bible is Maher-shalal-hash-baz: Isaiah 8:1.

• A chariot imported from Egypt cost around 600 shekels of silver (1 Kings 10:29). That would be about $77,000. One shekel was 4 days wages.

• Almonds and pistachios are the only nuts mentioned in the Bible.

“Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”  St. Francis of Assisi

The pace of today’s world places incredible demands on all of our time, energy and resources.  That much is certain.  And the need to get away, to recharge the body, mind and spirit has never been greater.  Making that reconnection to inner peace doesn’t require the cost of a trip far away.  In Prior Lake, we’re fortunate to have the Franciscan Retreats and Spirituality Center.

The retreat sits on 60 beautiful wooded acres with offices at 16385 Saint Francis Lane.    It is, indeed, beautiful and serene to behold.  Bob Beck is the retreat’s Director of Marketing and Promotion.  In sitting down and talking with him about his job, it’s apparent that there is a genuine passion for what is doing.  Promoting a beautiful center like Franciscan Retreats seems to offer him a serenity of its own.

“I’m not a Franciscan but part of the beauty of our retreat is that it isn’t necessary to be one.  In fact, denomination or religious affiliation is not a requisite criteria for attending a retreat here.”  He added, “it’s the ideal place to examine the challenges of life and unwind.”

The Conventual Friars of Our Lady of Consolation Province are your hosts at Franciscan Retreats and Spirituality Center.  The retreat house and spirituality center brings one so many things including a beautiful chapel, library, a conference room and gift shop as well as home cooked meals and a genuine spiritual connection.

A Weekend Retreat or a Midweek Retreat is composed of a number of group activities: Prayer Services, Mass, Retreat Conferences (these are 30 minute presentations on a specific topic related to the retreat theme), meals, AND free time for rest, reflection, personal prayer, reading, walking or sharing with other retreatants.

They have 58 very comfortable semi-private rooms arranged in 29 suites. There are two rooms that make up each suite and a folding wall separates them.  Married couples and family members usually open the wall to share the large space together.  Individuals typically choose to leave the wall in place.

There is a $30 dollar registration fee and a $160 suggested donation fee at the end of the retreat.  Call them at 952-447-2182 to give them a date of the retreat you would like to attend.  One could hardly imagine a less expensive way to regroup.
