Giggle Gals began with a mother and daughter, custom hand painted wine glasses and some joyful giggling. Susan Hanson and her daughter Deanna Rodewald quickly understood that the playful design of Deanna's custom hand-painted wine glasses, brought joy and laughter to all those around them. It wasn’t long after that they made the decision to open a downtown retail shop to showcase Deanna's creative artistic flair and both their love of jewelry, fashion and accessories.
They made a purposeful decision to get to know their clientele as much as possible. This made it possible for them to understand precisely what kind of merchandise to feature in their fabulous boutique. The demographic shopping range for Giggle Gals customers ranges from 30 to 80. But what is even more amazing is how they seem to so seamlessly merge their tastes and choices across generations. Beautiful hand chosen apparel, jewelry, scarves and boots have a dramatic edginess to them. Shopping at Giggle Gals is an experience one might typically expect to have at an upscale store in Mall of America, without the upscale pricing you would expect to find.
They cater to a diverse demographic because of the close nature of their own relationship. There’s a synergy here that seems to almost transcend the conventional mother/daughter dynamic. They are incredibly tuned into each other on both personal and professional levels. Differences do emerge, however, when they are asked about favorite media. Susan enjoys watching “In the Middle” and listening to classical music and Michael Buble' while Deanna likes to tune in to “The Walking Dead” and listening to her favorite group Maroon 5.
Maintaining the kind of innovative merchandising found at Giggle Gals takes them to Las Vegas for Magic Market Week twice a year where together they spend time perusing new designers and manufactures. Magic is one of the most widely anticipated fashion conventions in the world. Designers and retailers from around the world meet to define trends and styles and many of the best find their way back to Prior Lake through Susan and Deanna.
For a store with humble beginnings that opened in 2005 across the street from their current location, they have come a long way. This mother/daughter team today boasts a beautiful 2000 square foot full service boutique in the lovely Rockcreek Building located right off of Main/Hastings Avenue. Giggle Gals is certainly a Prior Lake original.
