Balance Between Work, Sleep and Leisure

Want to increase your productivity in business and life in general? You are not the only one!

A huge number of people have huge trouble doing so because they simply cannot control how much time they devote to sleep. Success is related to time management and time management is closely related to sleep.

You need to find the right balance between sleep, work and leisure. Sleeping a little too much can make you feel more energetic and relax, but may leave not enough time for work and leisure. Some people are happy to forgo leisure all together, but that is not a healthy lifestyle to live on for the long term.

Sleeping too little will make you feel exhausted over the long term, decreasing productivity in your work and not actually enjoying available leisure time. Even though you have more time to work, you may notice that your mind takes more time to process your work, decreasing overall output.

For example, you may need 1 hour to finish a task with a good night's sleep, but 1.5 or more hours with a bad night's sleep.

The best thing to do is to balance time spent on each activity. This will keep you the most productive and healthy over the long term. Remember that it's not just about your physical wellbeing but also about your mental wellbeing too.

Sacrificing sleep is related to a small business not having enough resources that can allow time saving. For example, using automated machinery versus hand controlled machinery. Automated machines, are expensive to afford, but are way more productive, allow time saving and higher production volumes. As a result, a small business, with small finances, has no other choice than using the hand controlled machine.

As the business and sales grow, work overflow and inefficiency kicks in. The employees and the management will probably need to work overtime. The business owner needs to provide more energy than ever into the business and will probably need to sacrifice sleep.

Sacrificing sleep may be justifiable if the business can be taken to the next level. The business needs to adapt in higher demand cycles, new processes need to be established, and new personnel will be hired. In the long term, when the business becomes bigger, sleep, work and leisure will be balanced once more, and returns will be higher than ever.

As a result, if a better future is expected for you and your business you should be willing to sacrifice sleep, work harder and even sacrifice leisure time. But remember that the best long term combination is for all three activities to be balanced.
