There are a few things that an entrepreneur should never be caught dead without in public and a business card is one of them. The other things will be covered in another article. You are not in business without a card. A business card is an oldie but a goodie or better yet a must have. It's as essential as wearing clothes when you go out in public.
A business card gives you a chance to be remembered by everyone you meet. It's like a permanent handshake. Actually your habit should be to shake hands with everyone you meet then hand them your business card.
Make your card easy to keep by making it magnetic so the recipient can put it on their refrigerator. That way every time they pass their refrigerator or look at it they see your card. You will cross their mind at least once per month. Making your card magnetic also makes it more durable. Physically your card should match with the look and feel of your business. If the business is high-end then your card should reflect that.
Business cards are small billboards that communicate your message to the recipient. Keep your message simple and to the point. Don't clutter the face of card. One name (maybe two; yours and the company) and make it short. Remember this prime real-estate. One phone number is best and forget the fax number unless it is essential to the way you deliver your service or product. One email address and try to make it look as professional as possible. This means the email should have either the company name in it or your name. Try to have a website if possible. Websites are inexpensive these days but give credibility. Its advisable to either have an email or a website not both. Only essential information should be on your business card.
Your card should have a logo on it. If you don't have a logo then a picture works as well if not better because people are visual. Think about it when you hear certain words, don't images appear in your mind? Of course they do. Your card will put an image of you or the storefront of your business in the mind of the recipient.
You are an entrepreneur so Always Be Marketing. There should never be a time when you are not marketing unless you are dead or sleeping.
